Description
Asheville has a comprehensive plan that was put together in 2002. Asheville issues are similar to most growing cities. They are trying to facilitate growth without losing the character that made the city so popular in the first place. The city is in the process of updating the outdated comprehensive plan. “Living Asheville, A Comprehensive Plan for Our Future will replace the existing City Development Plan 2025, as the primary tool used by the City to guide its long-term development. The Plan will be based on goals set by the community to achieve a vision of what it wants to be.” The Downtown Master Plan talks about how the urban core already has the new ideal for American Cities, walkable streets, public gathering places, mixed uses, and mixed demographics. The main goals of the plan are to: “Encourage variety in heights, massing, and character to respect context, animate the skyline, preserve valued views, and offer development options.” The planning department is very active in creating the new comprehensive. They are getting the community involved to make sure that all people have input in the newest vision for the city.
