- Description
- Canal Winchester is a city of about 7,000 residents located 15 miles southeast of Ohio’s capitol city of Columbus. The comprehensive plan of Canal Winchester takes the pieces that make it a unique community and put them in a context that will help prepare the city for the future. In an effort to create a viable plan looking at the future of this historic town, students from The Ohio State University, under the supervision of professional faculty, as well as the community of Canal Winchester worked together a create the comprehensive plan. The comprehensive plan refers to a document that acts as a guide for the future. The community acts as the author for the vision and the comprehensive plan offers the steps it takes to reach the goals established. The comprehensive plan is unique in that it: • Assesses the existing conditions of a community and uses them to outline the direction the place wants to go. • Takes the community’s ideas and suggests the appropriate actions necessary to reach these goals. • Looks to illustrate a plan for the next 10-20 years with the hope that it will be updated every so often as a response to the changes the community might experience. • Involves the public, city government leaders, Ohio State Students and faculty, and other potential stakeholders in the future of Canal Winchester. • Includes gathering of opinions and ideas from previously completed community plans, data collected from census information and mapping data from the Canal Winchester. • Most importantly, public input from community meetings and forums help shape the comprehensive plan. The comprehensive plan for Canal Winchester is not an administrative document. It is rather the outline for development of certain aspects in the community’s planning. Future approaches to planning within Canal Winchester will take into account the goals and objectives put forth in this document.~root~>
