- Description
- Overview The Village of Marble Cliff is located in Northwest Columbus, Ohio. Marble Cliff is bounded by Dublin Rd and the Norfolk Southern Railroad on the West, Fifth Avenue on the North, and the ally behind Cambridge Boulevard on the East. Marble Cliff is a small community in area and in population. The total area of the community is 173 acres and the total population as of the 2010 Census is 573 people. Marble Cliff is 97.9% Caucasian. Goal: Increase Age Diversity The median age of the population is 48.6 years with 63.7% of the population being over 40 years old and only 110 individuals or 19.2% being under the age of 19(Figure 1). On the whole Marble Cliff is an older, Caucasian community. The household makeup of Marble Cliff is close to even: 45.5% are husband-wife families while 48.3% are nonfamilies(Figure 2). Of husband-wife families only 32.3% currently have children under the age of 18. Of the non-families 34.8% are individuals over the age 65. Attracting a younger population to Marble Cliff with more disposable income could improve spending at local shop and funds for continued restoration and maintenance of historic properties. Goal: Increase % Live/Work Community Marble Cliff is also a well-educated, upper-middle class community. The median annual household income for Marble Cliff is $82,583(Figure 3) compared to the median annual household income for Columbus is $43,348. 39.2% of households are making more than $100,000 annually. This could be because Marble Cliff is a highly educated village; 66.7% of the population 25 years or older has attained a bachelor’s degree or graduate/professional degree. 15.5% of the population over 25 has a 2-year degree or some college(Figure 4). The educational attainment data correlates well with reported occupations of Marble Cliff residents. 67.1% over the age of 16 are employed in a professional setting: ‘management, business, science, and arts occupations’. While 31.2% are employed in quasi-professional settings: ‘service occupation or sales and office occupations’(Figure 5). The high educational attainment of Marble Cliff is clearly an asset that should be capitalized on. Business owning residents should locate their business in Marble Cliff because of the central location and the community benefits. Goal: Increase Use of Alternative Modes of Transportation Marble Cliff seems to be a typical auto-oriented suburb despite being well connected to some alternative modes like bicycle or bus. 84.7% of employed residents, over 16, drive to work alone(Figure 6). Increasing comfort with education on alternative modes of transportation could change the auto-dependent nature of Marble Cliff.~root~>
