Description
Data was obtained from the Ohio State University in order to calculate which of the selected buildings are no longer sound and therefore require demolition, as well as to determine the impact zones and surrounding buildings potentially affected by the proposed demolitions. The zones each have a specific degradation value to be used in a formula to determine if the building should be demolished or not. This formula provides a demolition value (DV). It utilizes the current year (A), the year the building was built (B), and the degradation value itself (C). The formula is as follows: DV = (A-B) * C In order to interpret these results, the demolition values must be compared to the demolition threshold of 50. Thus, both Brown Hall and Pomerene Hall are over the demolition threshold (at 66.6 and 73.6, respectively), and are consequently proposed to be demolished. Now that a decision has been made as to which buildings need to be demolished, buffer zones must be created around the chosen buildings to represent impact zones from demolition. Zones of 250 feet were therefore created around the building footprints, and all buildings falling within this zone are subsequently deemed as potentially affected by debris from demolition.
