Description
This was a student project by Aisha Cheema for Andrew Cruse's course ARCH 3410 in Autumn 2018. This project is a school located where a ravine meets N High St., or an intersection of urban and rural. Part of the site plan proposal includes rebuilding the historic shape of the ravine by demolishing existing buildings on both sides of N High St. This carving away on both sides causes N High St. to function as a land bridge. The school is a reflection of this new bridge created by the restoration of the ravine. Three levels contain the program of this school. The first level is entered from a South entrance, which does not face the road. Housed on the first floor is the gym, a set of big stairs, and a dining area. The second floor has a long classroom bar and an administration bar that is connected by a library. Finally. the third floor only contains a classroom bar. Classrooms float above the ravine on a column grid and each classroom opens to the ravine.
