Our proposal for Monongahela Energy Park is multi-faceted. On on hand, it is concerned with what we term "regenerating:" remediating the damage of years of misuse and neglect, ultimately with the end goal of new, vibrant programmatic uses. Additionally, our proposal seeks to find new ways of "powering" the site: as the historic center of an energy-intensive age, the park looks to move from its former consumptive habits to a sustainable lifestyle, using not iron ore and coke to feed its appetite, but the renewable resources of sun, wind, water, and biomass. Finally, we visualize the park as an experiment in "growing" Pittsburgh: educating our children about the ingenuity and hard work of earlier generations, while demonstrating the best practices of today in terms of health, community, and environment.
