Description
Vitra Campus Warehouse and Prototyping Center The Vitra campus contains many warehouses, museums, and factories that work to design, build, and display furniture. This building aims to combine functions from across the campus into one space. The campus is located neer the border between Germany, France, and Switzerland. Swatches of each border are overlaid, creating the roof and floor plans, with the two boarders separating each function within the space. This represents the joining of multiple functions from the campus as well as the joining of different political spaces on the site. The lower floor is sunk into the site to allow trucks to load onto the second floor. This also creates a procession through landscape into the main space of the building when traveling from other parts of the campus. The building has a transparent, membrane-structure roof to allow light to enter the space, as well as oversized “structural lantern” columns that let light into the lower level.
