Description
This project was a combination exercise on many things, meant to arrive at a goal through a series of what Wilke termed “mad scientist” phases where we would try many different alterations to a form and then select a few to more forward. It started with manipulations of a 2D rectangle, followed by a translation of those 2D shapes to 3D, then adding some minor articulations, finally culminating in an “endless” wall of iterations. This iterative approach led to many forms that were similar, yet distinct from one another. My wall began to take on the feeling of a collection of characters rather than the single uniform structure one typically imagines when they think of a wall. It was often referenced to as almost a collection of Funko Pops as some of the choices led to some human-like proportions and features. This project really helped me to understand iterative design and how powerful it can be as a tool when trying to work through a problem. It is easy to get an idea into your head and envision it as the ideal for a problem you are working on, but the reality is that each project could turn out in several ways that all have their own unique merits. Without taking the time to go through several options around a problem it is difficult to fully understand the benefits and draw backs of each one, and without doing so you could easily miss a better solution to your problem.
