Description
Bringing together a multitude of programs, such as archives, fabrication, and exhibition, this project is aimed at creating experiences and long views for the visitors as they move through the circulation. The many delineated spaces are connected through these framed views and continuous curving floor plan. As shown in plan, the curved route through the exhibit space is amplified by the bridge overlooking the fabrication space, as well as separate classroom workshops acting as modules along the route. The double height archive shown in section allows for the loading dock to be accessed from the ground level. Expansive glazing grants views out into the rest of the beautiful Vitra Campus. The main focus of the design was to create different moments of long and diagonal views to connect the different spaces together. A visitor in the cafe has a long view across the building up into the archive, creating anticipation for the rest of the journey. Views down into the fabrication space creates a sense of connection between visitor and employee. A view through the main hall of the exhibit showcases the workshops as if they are on display as well. Entering the last workshop space shows the long view through back to the public archive, showcasing the concept of connectivity while showcasing the programmatic differences.
