Description
For the New Jesse Owen’s Recreation Center, an internalized network of fitness and recreation is created with a breakdown of scale enclosed by a sculptural roof structure. There is a use of deliberate tectonic shifts, sliding gestures, and explosive moments to accomplish this. This creates dynamic circulation paths leading to a variety of different scaled destinations, a blurring of interior and exterior space, and a high energy dynamic space within the perimeter of simple volumes. The program features a 50-foot climbing wall, basketball courts, a pool, boxing/martial arts area, and a scattering of fitness/weightlifting spaces throughout the recreation center.
