Description
My intent for this project was to integrate elements of regular and irregular with continuous and interrupted objects to synthesize my thickened ground and elevated volume concepts. My concept for the elevated volume is shown as a curved continually flowing building that severs a diagonal, more rectangular-shaped building in half. My concept for the thickened ground model is shown as spiraling staircase-like figures that include regular and irregular shapes through plan and section, respectively. I have decided to incorporate the ideas of regular and irregular into my elevated volume model by transforming the rectangular aspect into a structure that better illustrates the elements of my thickened ground model. This structure involves stacking the individual spirals in both an elongated horizontal and vertical fashion. Due to the integration of these two models, the space can now be experienced above, through, and below, and for dining, collaboration, isolated alone time, as a viewing point, and as a structure to be viewed. I’ve taken inspiration from Falling Waters and The Rolex Learning Center to create a piece that allows a smooth transition from the ground to a much higher point in space. My motto for this piece is derived from the Thompson Library: the higher you go, the quieter it gets.
