Across the street from an existing elementary school, a vacant site is aimed to be
developed into a k-5 school to ease overcrowding at the Indianola Informal School. This site sits
on the edge of the Walhalla ravine, a wooded area in the middle of the city. The school is
organized around an elongated stair that acts as a path through the school. This stair takes on
different forms throughout the school including seating areas, ramps, balconies, coves, and a
rock climbing wall. This path is to be used for classes, recreation, and as a gathering space for
students. The elongated stair reflects the ravine in its sectional change and materiality, using
wood flooring and a wood and glass ceiling, bringing the ravine inside to be used as a learning
tool and recreational space.~root~>
