Description
Hospitals and clinics have historically been defined as in-between “other” places. In the past three centuries, they have evolved and transformed from small charitable institutions to large medical facilities. And their unique function, as spaces of medical treatment and practice, has allowed their architecture to assume a vital role—a direct, even corporeal, connection with their human subjects. Taking this into consideration, the mission of this project was to mobilize interactions to adapt and expand public health. This was accomplished through the integration of rail systems both large and small scale in the parts and in the whole, a modular organization system that rethinks the modern hospital, and a radical design that reaches into the lake, allowing for unlimited expansion.
