The objective of my project is to address the affordable
housing crisis in Columbus by creating a series of integrated
communities composed of dense, combatable,
courtyard units.
Each dwelling is entered at grade, and the pod structure
of twenty dwellings sharing an amenity is repeatable for
economy of design. Six masses form neighborhood pods,
each consisting of residential units and social activity
areas, organized based on their communal program.
The remaining units connect the neighborhood along a
path used for walking and biking. This path follows the
existing bike trail and bridge to connect the entire community
to each amenity.
The repeatable unit is composed of two studio homes,
with one-three bedroom dwellings adjacent to it. A central
core includes bathrooms, stairs for multi-level dwellings,
and laundry rooms shared between two units. This
structure is repeated to develop different neighborhoods
conducive to their program.
The entire landscape will accommodate residential circulation
with walk up units, and the rooftops will allow circulation
to different amenity programming.
Dwellings are conceived in section with program informing
the vertical hierarchy. Eating, meal preparation, sleeping
and bathing are stacked to facilitate privacy in dense
neighborhoods. The remaining rooftops that are not used
for shared amenities will act as sustainable green roofs.
This project will grow over time and extend to neighboring
sites by replacing greenscapes with rooftops to maintain
a stable amount of permeable ground and canopy
cover.~root~>
