Description
The goal of my design is to enhance the natural capabilities of an abandoned parking lot. I redefined the spatial qualities of the area by carving down into the asphalt and removing geometric chunks of asphalt, a motif done on the original site. In addition, the natural depressions in the site have been expanded across the lot to allow for more spontaneous vegetation growth. In both areas, the large planters and small ground depressions, tumbled asphalt from the site will refill and even the surface of the lot. All plants chosen have been found naturally occurring at the site to reduce the amount of maintenance and planting needed. The new design creates pockets of privacy, utilizing Silvergrass and tree canopy as a barrier between seating. This creates multiple gathering spaces for groups or individuals looking to escape the overwhelming atmosphere of High Street
