Description
In the area around Lake Erie, Phragmites reeds are seen as an invasive species in which current efforts and resources are used to combat it through rolling, mowing, air spraying pesticides, and the use of controlled fires. Flexible Phragmites challenges common construction methods by utilizing phragmites reeds as a construction material throughout the project. The flexibility of phragmites allows the project to adjust to the seasonality of South Bass Island by being able to be rebuilt according to the lifespan of each phragmites bundle.
