Description
This was a student project by Vadime Kurilov for Jonathan Novak's ARCH 242 course, Winter 2006. Through many iterations of generative model, I discovered that my project derived from an abacus. The abacus helped with the exploration of the beads on rods and how forces cause them to slide or be pulled across the site in a linear orientation. The program in the Train Station worked in the same way allowing retail, the great hall, and restaurants to be pulled toward one side of the site. Pieces were then isolated and suspended from rooftops creating an ambulant space overlooking pathways of circulation. The landscape acting like an armature suspends the program from above. From an aerial view the program is hidden by the landscape. ---- Vadime Kurilov This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University. It is part of an effort to make accessible student work ranging from the first student that graduated from the program in 1903 to the present. This effort was sponsored in part by the Graham Foundation.
