Aftershock : 2016 Post Olympic Site, Rio de Janeiro

Description
Using The Old City typology for site organization creates a network within the fabric for residents and visitors to become lost and immersed in culture. Grand boulevards, pedestrian streets, side streets, back alleys, and pockets of green space become integrated with housing and amenities. Old points of interest, now underground parking with large light wells, formed two loop roads which divide the site into smaller districts. Stripping the districts into housing bars was used to help orient oneself in a city of winding circulation. It allowed for the push and pull of the ground vertically to create three housing typologies, space for amenities, and free green space underneath. Insertion of amenities into the surface caused a split and crease, which became the structure to hold program.
