Description
This project is the revival of the historic American Addition Neighborhood, located just northeast of Columbus, Ohio. The design is about connection with relation to Cleveland Avenue and Woodward Avenue. This is achieved by adding a main route, Continuum Boulevard, through the site. This boulevard acts as a green-way that channels and filters storm water, similar to what we see in agricultural fields. With the idea of connection, the project revolves around a central area. This acts as the common space which houses the overall community building and preschool. This is where all operations of the agri-community that I am proposing are lead. It, in a way, acts as the 'brains' of the design. The gardens in the sub communities will consist of vegetables and small fruits. With a related orientation, an orchard is across the main route. This orchard is accompanied by a vineyard, raspberry patches, and a dandelion field, which will be used to make wine on the 4+ acre campus. The vineyards will be part of the campus that I am proposing to be an agri-center, in which citizens of Columbus can come to take seminars and classes that profess the values of urban farming/agriculture and gardening. It will also focus on the role of horticultural practices, such as specialty types of gardening in the greater community. The winery will be a way for the campus to bring in funding for future projects/expansion. One major thing to note is that the main road, connecting the community to Cleveland Avenue and Woodward Avenue, will bring this community to the front and center. This helps the community act as a continuous whole, which is why it is called Continuum Boulevard. Any part of this community can be reached from this main route. Water from the reservoir will be used for irrigation when needed. This reservoir is part of the 10+ acre green reserve. Across Joyce Avenue, there will be proposed farming plots for the city of Columbus. This placement of this urban farm will complete the project and symbolize the connection between this community and metropolitan Columbus. FOOD BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER.
