This is a student project by Nick Gotthardt from Winter 2010. The design concept for Alum Flow evolved from two forces. The ?rst was inspired by analysis done on site through 3 transect studies. The second source of inspiration came from the creek itself and its relation to the Alum Biketrail. Cross-county and Regional cyclists were identifed as the primary user, with the design proposal working to transform the site into a trailhead along the route. Building on escorts downstream by community groups to remove low head dams, the design proposes removing the sole dam to the north, subsequently flooding the lower site basin. Design Intention was to engage the creek and cyclists, through a dry/wet, clean/messy sequence of experiences along the path. Visitors are lead to a kinked deck, which provides a point of prospect over the flooded wetland. Crossing is provided via a low footbridge. Visitor curiosity serves as the catalyst for further penetration into the site's wooded areas. This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University. It is part of an effort to make accessible student work ranging from the first student that graduated from the program in 1903 to the present.~root~>
