Description
This was a student project by Allison Roberts for Bart Overly's ARCH 241 course, Autumn 2007. The Alum Creek Rest Stop project began with a study of a layered system (mushroom) which was then modeled (carpet). The study was then used to develop the rest stop at Alum Creek. The project incorporated the existing landscape of the site and created a rest stop off of interstate 71. Patterns found within the original topography were manipulated to create a new pattern that morphed the original and fabricated topography together. The new fabricated topography provided a site that took visitors away from the interstate to a site that sloped down to the lake blocking the view of the highway behind the site. Specific sections of the site remained untouched where other specific sections were extruded for the actual rest stop building. The Site also included walking/running paths and picnic tables. - Allison Roberts This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University. It is part of an effort to make accessible student work ranging from the first student that graduated from the program in 1903 to the present. The effort to preserve and digitize drawings in the Student Archives was sponsored in part by the Graham Foundation.
