Description
This studio aimed to research and develop designs for a novel, constructed ecosystem for the channelized Hoosic River in North Adams, MA. This project investigates the tension between the built environment and natural processes. This phenomenon was expressed using a grid of single material piles placed at the confluence, which would be reorganized by the river. A grid of similar shaped concrete baffles are placed a few hundred feet upstream from this intervention to slow the process. Adjacent to this are two large structures built out of wooden pallets. These structures provide space for plant and animal habitats as well as support for a multi-use path that guides users through the space.
