Description
This was a project by Adam A. Rice for the CRP Internship award competition, Spring 2006. Student projects on affordable housing, neighborhood (re)development, environmental preservation, transportation, and other topics were displayed in the Banvard Gallery at the Knowlton School of Architecture on May 29 through June 9, 2006. The Design of the building reflects the commitments Community Housing Network, Inc. and Urban Order Architects have to creating beautiful structures that blend into their surroundings. CHN bought this old farmstead and preserved the farmhouse. Working with the community the Briggsdale Apartments took shape and invoked the area's history while providing safe, clean, affordable and attractive housing to the tenants. CHN developed permanent supportive rental apartments for individuals disabled by mental illness, substance addiction or histories of chronic homelessness. CHN developed the site located at 1670 Harrisburg Pike, which is now a new apartment building with 35 studio apartments, community space, a computer lab and offices for staff. This housing opened in mid-March 2006. A grand opening celebration was held in the Spring 2006. This housing offers disabled and homeless individuals a stable living environment and the opportunity to receive treatment, find work, maintain recovery and give back to the community. Success is measured by length of stay in housing, becoming connected to supportive services and treatment and by increased income through employment. - Adam A. Rice This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University. It is part of an effort to make accessible student work ranging from the first student that graduated from the program in 1903 to the present.
