Cincinnati Institute for Urban Studies

Description
This is a student project by Daniel Thomas Leone for ARCH 841 in Autumn 2010. Situated in an urban 'no man's land' on the outskirts of Cincinnati, the Urban Institute attempts to establish a new defined edge to the city. A grand public square extends out from the auditorium, where the city of Cincinnati and incoming museum goers become the backdrop to every presentation. Scholar residences are situated along a muse, opposite a hotel for visiting lectures, which provide private parking for researchers. These townhouses have roof gardens, which give panoramic views of the campus, as well as connect to the Library where the scholar's studies are located. In response to the overwhelming presence of a bridge in the sight, a volume was subtracted from the art galleries to accommodate the highway and create a monumental passage in and out of the city of Cincinnati. This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University. It is part of an effort to make accessible student work ranging from the first student that graduated from the program in 1903 to the present. The effort to preserve and digitize drawings in the Student Archives was sponsored in part by the Graham Foundation.
