Description
This was a student project by Kris Cochran and Hristina Panovska for John McMorrough's ARCH 842 course, Winter 2007. Our focus was to draw families back into downtown Columbus and to reinstate the types of amenities and lifestyle a family needs. The project begins to address this by creating a semblance of community within an urban fabric; elevating green spaces adjacent to the housing. In order to appropriate proportion of interior and exterior spaces, precedent research was crucial. Specifically we looked at Steven Holl's Seaside Villas and Le Corbusier's Immeuble Villas. Massing was addressed through program. To create pockets of light and air and create an upfeed/downfeed circulation system, public spaces (school) were placed on the bottom levels while housing sits above. The community shares all exterior amenities and visually connects with the school below. To accommodate for all family types, unit sizes range from two bedrooms to four bedrooms by taking the same core base unit and simply adding to it. To keep the sense of community and openness we propose housing for a total of 20 families. - Kris Cochran and Hristina Panovska This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University.
