This was a student project by Ashley Kennedy for Mark Ours's ARCH 241 course, Autumn 2006. We were asked to design a rest stop by analyzing the system of strata within the site and the given program. I sliced a disposable camera in half and analyzed the strata within it, determining that they were performing a mold operation. I then applied this operation to the strata within the site (trees, water, land, air, highway) and created a model using expandable foam. The foam molded around objects I had embedded to create voids. The voids were molded from a solid substance and embedded back into the next model. This process continued until I had found voids for all aspects of the program. -- Ashley Kennedy This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University. It is part of an effort to make accessible student work ranging from the first student that graduated from the program in 1903 to the present.~root~>
