Description
This was a student project by Miroslava Brooks for John Kelleher's ARCH 441 course, Autumn 2007. The aim of this project is to create a tower which is intended for, but not limited to, a specific lifestyle the Eco-elite. The chic, urban, 30/40 somethings the Eco-elite are in a financial position to support their environmental interests without compromising the quality which they are used to. Going green is certainly not a new trend and many brands have been using labels such as Eco-friendly, organic, natural, green or sustainable on a whole range of products from cars and furniture to clothing, dishes, and food. Much attention is given to the appearance and packaging of these products and adjectives such as refined, reconstituted, elegant, and global immediately come to one's mind. Using the idea of packaging and environmental responsibility, as well as keeping in mind some of the adjectives such as refined, elegant, and performative, a form is generated according to aesthetic, climatic, and programmatic conditions. The goal is not to make a sustainable building by plugging in mechanical, high-tech innovations, but rather to create a design using formal strategies such as proportion, orientation, and punctuation which allow the tower to be sustainable without losing its architectural quality.-- Miroslava Brooks
