Description
This student project by Daniel Leone was produced Winter 2012. This design for the Helsinki Public Library competition attempts to reflect the importance of the library as a cultural institution in a time when many analog sources of information turn to a digital medium. The project accomplishes this by allocating distinct architectural identities to programmatic necessities while maintaining fluid path of circulation between them. The Library does not employ tectonic separations between programs, but instead uses amorphous surfaces to create spaces for library functions and transitory spaces. The collage that occurs between different programmatic spaces is a reflection of the massive integration of media into our designed world. -- Daniel Leone
