Description
The house project was based on the idea of a figural void penetrating through an object. In order to create the form used for the project, an object was distorted and reconfigured in the 2-D, extruded, then rotated and placed within a bounding box. This was done twice: once to create a void in a cube, the other to create a figure cropped by a cube. The cropped figure was then chosen to be turned into a house. The design of the house is based on an idea of a hierarchical circulation being forced away from the rest of the project. The stairs are separated from the core of the house by a central void. The void continues to the ground in the project and creates an entrance courtyard which leads into the house. The spaces in the house are public at the entrance, and become more private as the circulation approaches the top floor. Two faces of the building are entirely glass to create a view out, and one is located at the landing of each stair which leads people up into the project.
