Description
This project is a design for an art center located on the Kenyon College campus. The art center includes the following programs: gallery space, a theater, a black box theater, public space with a lobby, education space, restaurant and retail, and a library. The site strategy of this project connects the campus and the town by lifting up two diagonal corners of the rectangular building to create a passage on the ground. The central atrium functions as a public gathering space that also connects to the program locations. Windows on the perforated exterior skin are organized according to the lighting requirements of different programs. To create contrast, the art center is designed with a simple geometric exterior, but a complicated interior space.
