Description
This was a student project by Austin Weller for Lisa Tilder ARCH 442 course, Winter 2008. P A R A D I S E P A R A D O X is a conceptual proposal for a new aquarium in Kuwait City. This proposed project constructs a dichotomy of environments based on the paradox of artificial and natural occurring events within the domesticated atmosphere of an aquarium. Visitors to the aquarium experience a series of juxtaposed, paradoxical events, structured through a field of poles and panels that assemble a photovoltaic energy field. The clean energy produced by the photovoltaic array adds irony to the absurdity of an aquarium sited in the arid environment of an oil capital such as Kuwait. The photovoltaic array generates enough energy to power the project while instigating a subtle critique of the world's dependency on fossil fuels. --Austin Weller
