- The building has 240,000 gross square feet and 130,000 assignable square feet, distributed among three buildings. Of the assignable 130,000 sq ft, about 17,400 sq ft is divided among 14 state-of-the-art classrooms. The west building (with four floors above ground) houses laboratories; the east building (with five floors above ground) houses classrooms and offices; and the north building (with three floors) houses administrative offices and student spaces. An elevated walkway connects the west and east buildings. Student spaces in the new building include attractive student areas, a large student lounge with adjoining rooms for student organizations, and lockers for students to store their books and supplies. The building also features increased space for instructional and research laboratories, and a modular laboratory configuration which allows flexibility for subsequent changes as departmental activities evolve. The building complex also features an atrium that will allow us to display models from student projects and outdoor spaces to promote student activities such as ASME picnics.
