Description: The main aspect of designing this performing art center in downtown Cincinnati was to create a sense of openess to the outside which is not typical in projects of this type. The building is intersected at the base which creates a space close to the street. This serves as a public viewing gallery. Art is often pushed inside, viewable to only patrons. This design allows everyone to view some of the art at street level. The glass gallery features three levels, the bottom viewable from the street, the middle occupiable from within, and the third not occupiable but viewable from within the main building, looking across the gap. The lower auditorium features a glass backdrop to the hills of Cincinnati. The rooftop auditorium is completely open with panoramic views of the city and landscape. Unlike the lower auditorium which has traditional seating, the rooftop auditorium replaces these with large amphitheater steps which allow patrons to sit at their leisure.
