Description
This is a student project by Chnagkyu Lee from Autumn 2010. The site is considered as a transitional area that city and school meet. Also here is a strong circulation of the north and east sides of the building along with basement level of Sullivant Hall. In addition, I tried to keep the existing building which adds historical value. This project is going to create a viable and visible student life for city and school with the new Sullivant Hall. The main idea of this project is from the inside out(to show valuable things to the outside of Sullivant Hall i.e. dance department or other activities inside of the building) and outside in(bringing the circulation inside of building) to create a unified program of each purpose of space exhibiting and experiencing art, dance and cartoon. To relate with context(circulation, existing wall) and similarity, and for identifying the osu art gateway, I put a program in the center amongst the Wexner Center, Mershon Auditorium and Sullivant Hall. This program pops out from one of programs which is inside of building and this works giving a rest space to outside moving circulation, and bring people inside of the building. The empty space will be used as vertical circulation and defined as an indoor public area. -- Changkyu Lee This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University. It is part of an effort to make accessible student work ranging from the first student that graduated from the program in 1903 to the present.
