This was a student project by Omar Akkari for Jane Amidon's LARCH 253 course, Winter 2006. The studio focused on the design of resilient sites. Students first investigated disturbance and disequilibrium models and then used these to create a circulation parti for a neutral site. Students conducted site research and applied the earlier studies to creating a phased design strategy for the University's central pedestrian space, the Oval. The approach in this student's project goal was to completely change the dynamic properties of the Oval by changing surface behaviors. The parti was based on compression patterns of pedestrian on desire line paths. This new surface properties envisioned react to circulation patterns over time. The physical turf surface contorts under pressure; resulting in surface conforming and reacting to student traffic patterns and densities. --Submitted by Omar Akkari This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University.
