- Description
- Residential Arena is a combination of a courtyard and figural object design. Due to the shape of my building, I wanted to create an intimate relationship between the interior and the skin. To do so, I chose Aqua Tower as a precedent and angulated the floor plate to extend past and pull away from the skin. The houses are divided vertically and have a secondary circulation system to group floors. The facade of the building is glass that ranges in opacity. It is most transparent in public areas and least transparent in front of cores. At a large scale, the design continues the campus theme: inwardly focused but adjacent. It also responds to the site at a smaller scale through grand gateways to enter into the courtyard. The design forms small groups within a large university to further enhance the great experience at University of Chicago.~root~>
