- Description
- This was a student project by Cody Campbell for John Kelleher's ARCH 441 course, Autumn 2007. ... Rock Bottom Tower was designed focusing primarily on expressing a particular feeling and attitude through form, space, and the relationship between program, all of which was designed to suit the rock and roll lifestyle. Rock Bottom Tower consists of a public core that separates the hotel and the condominium/apartments. The floor of the two adjacent programs are offset in a split-level configuration, separated by a wall that stops three feet from the ground. This sets up a unit-to-unit relationship that frames a waste down, private view of your neighbor, and creates an awareness of all people around you, similar to that of which would be experienced at a concert. Two public elevators punch through the core, and drop off at public levels throughout the building. Each public level, whether it be the swimming pool, lounge, or lobby, are all treated as a social lobby, as each one is sandwiched between the units and are a means to reach your very own unit. The public levels are then arranged so that from each level, a view of the social level above and below you is available. This visual connection continues from the very top floor (concert hall), all the way to the lowest social level. This along with the unit to unit relationships creates an atmosphere that is always social, and always happening. ... ... - Cody Campbell This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University. It is part of an effort to make accessible student work ranging from the first student that graduated from the program in 1903 to the present. The effort to preserve and digitize drawings in the Student Archives was sponsored in part by the Graham Foundation.~root~>
