Description
This project was completed by second year graduate student Susan Butts for Doug Graf's Autumn 2011 ARCH 841 class. The Sharsky Institute for Culinary Studies is an elite culinary arts campus located on Mount Adams in Cincinnati, Ohio. Although diminutive in scale, the institute has many of the physical properties and amenities of a university campus consisting of classrooms, study kitchens, library, an auditorium, gallery, café, gymnasium, student center, dormitories, prominent restaurant and apartments for visiting faculty. The campus is to deliver a variety of experiences well choreographed with the program to make the spatial experience of the project as satisfying as the food that is produced there. With a challenging site topographically, the institute carves into the site creating an idealized lawn for campus recreation while the institutional facilities scale the hillside surrounding the lawn. --Susan Butts
