This was a student project by David Michael Bailey for Michael Cadwell's ARCH 841 course, Autumn 2006. The Solar Aperture Wall adapts Frank Lloyd Wright's Baird House to a more stringent set of ecological constraints. The wall modulates between the competing demands of sight lines within the house, changing solar angles through the year, and passive heating and cooling demands. Precise modulation of the aperture sizes and wall topology allow light to penetrate the space when the climate demands, and frame eccentric views toward the horizon and landscape. In addition, the wall generates atmospheric effects that reinforce the continuities latent within Wright's Usonian field of building and landscape.--David Michael Bailey Keywords: student work, KSA, drawings and plans, residential structures, housing, house.
