Description
This was an undergraduate student project by John Durda for Andrew Kudless's ARCH 341 course, Autumn 2005. After exploring the structural properties of various organic objects, the task was to create a wall using a system of repeated modules. Our group focused particularly on the layered aspect of the onion, and the husk structure of the ground tomato. The module was developed by laminating two pieces of plywood, with the top fastened at its tensile limit. Through repetition and slight variation of the modules, the undulating wall surface was created. Further, an interstitial pattern was created between the modules by connecting the adjacent wood grains, laser cut from basswood, and attached to the modules. - John Durda Keywords: student work, KSA, project models.
