- Description
- This was an undergraduate student project by Zakery Snider for OCMA (Ohio Concrete Masonry Association) Block Competition, as well as ARCH 342 course, Winter 2005. The focus of the OCMA masonry block competition uses concrete block to develop a community center on South High Street. The focus of the OCMA masonry block competition uses concrete block to develop a community center on South High Street. Situated adjacent to a drive in theater, the site questions relationships between small and monumental scale objects. Using skate park design as a catalyst, this project identifies individual elements while allowing expression through a linked system of concrete block and reinforced concrete. A second system composed of wood and steel knits the exterior half pipes into an interior framework that becomes expressive of spatial relationships. Therefore, the effect of passing through the community center is highly activated by a dynamic layering of crossing skaters and programmatic elements linking the community through interaction. -- Zakery Snider This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University. It is part of an effort to make accessible student work ranging from the first student that graduated from the program in 1903 to the present. The effort to preserve and digitize drawings in the Student Archives was sponsored in part by the Graham Foundation.~root~>
