Description
By creating three levels of terraces throughout the site, three different degrees of separation from the city are created for visitors. The uppermost level provides a public space which reflects the site's urban context. This area contains a grid of trees, seating space, and a sunken space with art gallery buildings. The lowermost level provides a more private, natural area where visitors feel closer to the river. This level creates an ecological space within the city. The middle level contains the amphitheater and a versatile small group/performance space. It also provides a transition area between the urban and ecological through the mixture of lawn and grasscrete. Together these terraces provide a gradual transition away from an urban environment to create an ecological escape within the city.
