The Cinder Yards design revolves around distinctive circulations binding disparate landscapes. Penn West, a site shifting through and around an active rail line, is a common typology within post-industrial regions. With 120 acres to work with in addition to 300,000 cubic yards of fill from an infrastructure project, our focus turned to accentuating each region of the site’s unique characteristics, creating a wide range of hyper-engineered landscapes balanced by retained relics of its past. Within this range of typologies giving visitors a consistent mode of access was crucial, whether through urban systems, site systems, or riverfront systems.~root~>
