Description
This was a student project by Jinkyung Park for John Kelleher's ARCH 442 course, Winter 2007. Owner (Tribune): Tribune company's mission is to 'inform and entertain their consumers in the ways, places and times they want'. Tribune desires to be everywhere, providing 24/7 entertainment to their readers, listeners, and watchers. To do so, they need more production spaces such as broadcasting studios. City (urban): As number of commuters and tourists to the city of Chicago increase, the city needs more public spaces with better public transportation service in downtown area. Revival of a tram station and outdoor public event spaces in towers are one of the solutions to suggest. Architect (myself): My idea of tower design has shifted from verticality to horizontality. The traditional BASE is lifted up in the air, to provide entertainment spaces in new dimensions. Accommodating needs of Urban and Tribune is the most important design criteria in the project. -- Jinkyung Park This work is a part of the online collections of the Knowlton School of Architecture Student Archives, The Ohio State University. It is part of an effort to make accessible student work ranging from the first student that graduated from the program in 1903 to the present. Keywords: student work, KSA, drawings and plans.
