Description
Urban fabric is the manifestation of urban life in the landscape. Clintonville boasts a rich fabric of community ties and diverse walks of life. There is a tear in this carefully woven fabric however, the Glen Echo Ravine. Through a system of bridges and pathways the Urban Fabric project strives to patch together the disparate parts that characterize this unique space. Pedestrian circulation through the ravine reveals the human footprint imposed upon this community asset through four major typologies of experience: bi-level circulation for pedestrians and cyclists, a major access point, the pedestrian bridge over high street, and the ravine east of High Street. The new proposal for circulation creates an interactive dialogue between the pedestrian, the natural elements of the ravine and the infrastructural additions. It is through this dialogue that the community can become more educated about the state of local ecologies and functionally connect Clintonville.
