St. Basil's Cathedral is attributed to the architects Barma and Posnik. The cathedral consists of eight pillar-like churches placed symmetrically around a ninth, central pillar and set on a single foundation. It is an exemplar of the development of the Byzantine style in Russian churches. The cathedral is also known as the Cathedral of the Intercession or Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed.
