Description
The Circus Maximus is situated in the valley between the Aventine and Palatine hills. The large oval track was where the chariot races took place. Around 46 BCE Julius Caesar expanded the Circus, after which the track measured approximately 600 m (1,968 ft) in length, 200 m (656 ft) in width and could accommodate an estimated 250,000 spectators.
