UNESCO launched an aid program, 'Bethlehem 2000', intended to support the renovation of the city's badly decayed infrastructure. The construction and extension to the Dar Al-Kalima Academy was part of the same program. The Dar Al-Kalima is a multicultural and inter-faith institution. The new building is constructed in a densely-built quarter. The project includes a hall to be used for music, folk-dance performances, theater, films and lectures. The hall is supported by a large foyer with auxiliary space and restaurant.
