Description
"Built in 1901, this is considered by some to be Frank Lloyd Wright's first true Prairie Style house in Oak Park. The ground level is only utility rooms.. The main entrance is a roundheaded stone arch that leads to stairs, hidden from the street view, that take the visitor up to the full-length leaded-glass front door. The living rooms are elevated, providing some privacy from pedestrians and motorists on Ontario Street and views from Forest Ave to Austin Gardens." Wurman, R. S. (1995). Chicago Access. Access Press: Chicago. "The low, hipped roof, long bands of second-floor windows, third-floor trim, and broad chimney all emphasize the horizontal. The third-floor windows are unique, being Wright's take on the famous chicago windown, used in so many early Chicago commercial buildings, wherein a large fixed window is flanked by movable sashes" Cannon, P. F. (2006). Hometown Architect: the complete buildings of Frank Lloyd Wright in Oak Park and River Forest, Illinois. San Francisco: Pomegranate. p.66
