Hugo (Hans) Herkommer, whose entry achieved second place in the St. Boniface competition, submitted a competitive design for the Frauenfriedenskirche (Church Our Lady of Peace) in 1927. the distinguished jury of peter Behrens, Ernst May, and Paul Bonatz favored the entry by Bohm, but Herkommer proved more flexible in the design process and was given the commission. Constructed in 1929, the church includes an elaborate complex of buildings around a World War I memorial cloister. The church's triple-arched entrance houses an enormous mosaic by Josef Eberz of Munich. After damage in World War II, the church was rebuilt in the fifties to the same design and has been renovated subsequently.
